Start your year with a scenic and invigorating hike on the Tobacco House Ridge Trail at Douthat State Park. This moderate, out-and-back single-track trail offers a peaceful winter setting—perfect for those looking to stretch their legs and enjoy the crisp mountain air. The total distance of the hike will be just over two miles.

Along the way, a Douthat State Park ranger will guide the group, pointing out winter plant life, discussing wildlife commonly seen in the park, and sharing fascinating stories from Douthat’s history. At the top of the climb, there is a breathtaking overlook of Douthat Lake, the spillway, and the surrounding mountains, making it a memorable way to welcome the new year.

Be sure to dress warmly and wear sturdy closed-toed shoes.
