Stop by and explore the variety of flora and fauna found around Smith Mountain Lake. Discover how Virginia’s second-largest lake was created, wander through our butterfly garden, learn about ospreys, and explore our "touch table." If you decide to continue your explorations outside the Center on our trails, be sure to pick up one or more of our Jr. Discovery Series brochures. We offer guides for trees, wildflowers, reptiles, mammals, amphibians, and fish. Trail guides are also available in the brochure rack at the Discovery Education Center.

Every September, during Girl Scouts Love State Parks weekend, Virginia State Parks offers a variety of programs to connect Girl Scouts with nature while earning badges. From guided hikes and plant identification to campfire building and backpacking basics, this special weekend helps Girl Scouts learn outdoor skills, build confidence and become advocates for the environment.
