November Volunteer Workday: Claytor Lake Mussel Salvage

Where
Claytor Lake State Park, 6620 Ben H. Bolen Dr., Dublin, VA 24084.
Water's Edge Meeting Facility
When
Nov. 8, 2025. 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Come help mussels and plan to get muddy! A temporary 5 foot drawdown of Claytor Lake is scheduled for property owners to conduct shoreline maintenance. Mussels stranded by the drawdown need help getting back to the water. Help us help them!
Volunteers will meet at the Water's Edge Meeting Facility for orientation at 9:30 a.m. Claytor Lake State Park volunteers will travel to locations around the park where we’ll walk along the shoreline, counting and gently tossing mussels into the water while other teams will travel by boat to other shorelines outside of the park. Registration for this event is required.
Please wear layered clothes, shoes/boots/waders and gloves to prepare for mud, rocky and slippery terrain and the weather. It is recommended to bring extra clothing and shoes to change into afterward.
Drinks and snacks will be provided. Lunch will be available at the Water's Edge Meeting Facility. Salvage is expected to last approximately 3 hours. Participants volunteering for the event will be exempt from parking fees.
