Due to the expected impact of the winter storm, all Virginia State Park overnight facilities will be closed from Friday, Jan. 23 through Sunday, Jan. 25. This decision is based on the forecast for unsafe conditions and potential power outages. For updates click here.
Medicinal Plant Walk

Where
Powhatan State Park, 4616 Powhatan State Park Rd., Powhatan, VA 23139.
Equestrian Parking
When
Sept. 13, 2025. 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
You are invited to participate in a guided hike with an interpretive ranger to learn about the medicinal plants of central Virginia. Guests will learn how to identify some of the common medicinal plants in our region and discuss the cultural and historical uses of native plants within the park. With greater knowledge of the healing properties of these native plants, we can develop a greater appreciation for these natural resources, and hopefully develop deeper relationships with the plants that surround us every day.
The walk will be up to one mile long, at a leisurely pace on a mostly flat trail. We recommend bringing water and wearing comfortable walking shoes.
Register here to let us know you're coming. We will contact you if the program is cancelled due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
Foraging at Powhatan State Park must adhere to Virginia State Parks regulations. If you plan on foraging without a ranger, you must call ahead and receive verbal permission: (804)212-5675.
