Join us for a week-long celebration honoring the vibrant history of Pocahontas State Park, specifically highlighting the activities and programs once offered at its formerly segregated side, Group Camp 7, which was opened for use for the first time on July 15th, 1939. This special occasion not only commemorates the past but also celebrates the resilience and cultural richness of those who cherished this area.
Trail Tales - Sun. July 13 (Visitor Center): Read a story, explore a trail, and learn how it relates to our park’s history.
Terrariums - Mon. July 14 (Visitor Center): Create your own ecosystem and learn the historical context of crafting in the community.
Archery - Tue. July 15 (CCC Field): Learn basic techniques and the historical significance of archery.
Sass & Berries - Wed. July 16 (Visitor Center): Learn about native and introduced plant species.
Puppet Party - Thu. July 17 (Visitor Center): Get creative and make your own puppet.
Hike - Fri. July 18 (Bright Hope Horse Complex): Embark on a five-mile round trip guided hike of Group Camp 7.
Fire Building - Sat. July 19 (Visitor Center): Learn essential techniques and the story of preservation through adversity in the outdoors.
