Join us for a guided birding tour - on the river! Great Blue Herons, Bald Eagles, and Osprey are just a few of the birds you'll likely see along this 2.2-mile kayak float. Your guide will go over birding basics, the phenomenon of migration, and the significance of birding as a form of citizen science. The float will be roughly 2 hours long, depending on river conditions. Kayaks, PFDs, and binoculars will be provided. No birding or kayaking experience is necessary! You must be 10 years old or older to participate. This float is not recommended for individuals with mobility issues, as river levels might make it difficult to get in and out of the kayak.
To reserve your spot, please email megan.goin@dcr.virginia.gov. The $20 per person kayaking fee can be paid prior to the trip at the visitor center. Please arrive early to ensure the fee is paid before the program begins.
Please wear closed-toed, waterproof shoes for the kayaking trip. We recommend that you bring a filled water bottle with you on the tour.
Parks are for everyone. Please let us know if you need special accommodations.
