Ready to explore the forest in its full summer glory? Join Master Naturalist Kim Manion for a short, guided hike focused on the vibrant world of summertime tree identification. With lush canopies, fully developed leaves, and distinctive bark and branching patterns on display, it’s the perfect season to sharpen your tree-ID skills and deepen your connection to the forest.

Kim will share expert tips and surprising tricks to help you confidently identify Virginia’s trees using their leaf shapes, textures, bark characteristics, and overall growth habits. The walk takes place on Buck Lick Trail, an easy, family-friendly route covering less than half a mile on gentle terrain—great for all experience levels. Be sure to wear closed-toed shoes and dress for the weather.
