The appearance of frogs and salamanders is a sure sign of spring. Vernal pools are shallow pools of water that provide a place for some very special amphibians to lay their eggs, before the pools dry up in the summer heat. Join VA Master Naturalist and Southeastern Master Herpetologist Jodi Davis as we search for signs of these unique species in a vernal pool. Please plan on meeting at the Lupton Access picnic shelter at 1pm for a two mile walk to a vernal pool. Dress for the weather and bring polarized sunglasses and binoculars if possible.

Parks are for everyone! Please let us know if you need special accommodations.

*Each vehicle must display a valid daily or annual state park pass while on the property. Either pass can be purchased on the day of the program.

Please let us know you can make it by registering here.

Like tapioca pearls in boba tea, thousands of amphibian eggs float in lumpy. green, jelly coated masses in a vernal pool.
