March 2, 2025. 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

A diverse grouping of women paints a fascinating portrait of life at Poplar Forest over a 200-year period. Join Mary Kesler, Coordinator of Themed Tours and Historic Resources at Poplar Forest, one of Thomas Jefferson's homes, as she discusses the contributions and experiences of a myriad of women who have lived and worked at Poplar Forest. This remarkable group of women extended from Martha Jefferson, through whom Thomas inherited the property in 1773, to Hannah the enslaved woman who cooked Jefferson's meals, on up to later owners of the property.

The Winter Lecture Series is presented by the Friends of Smith Mountain Lake State Park. Proceeds go to help fund educational programs and projects in the park. Dates for the 2025 Winter Lecture series include February 2, March 2, March 23, and April 13.
