When

Dec. 27, 2025. 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Take a guided walk with a ranger in the winter woods to find out who is out and about. For some species, Virginia is their southern winter retreat, while others stay here year-round. Learn about the different seasonal survival strategies and practice identifying birds by their appearance, song, behavior, and even environmental context.

The walk will be 1-1.5 miles at a slow pace with frequent stopping on mostly flat terrain. Please bring binoculars if you have them. If not, we do have a few pairs that can be borrowed. See attached file for a bird checklist to print at home. The trail can be muddy at times, so please dress accordingly. Bringing water is always recommended!

Register here to let us know you're coming. We will contact you if the program is cancelled due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
