Homeschool: Fall Foraging

Location of Widewater State Park in Virginia

Where

Widewater State Park, 101 Widewater State Park Road, Stafford, VA 22554.
Visitor Center

When

Nov. 20, 2024. 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Foraging isn't just for animals, but for people too!

Join our Rangers on a hike where we will discuss edible foods that can be found in the woods this time of year, which plants are NOT edible, and how animals have adapted to the seasonal changes in preparation for Winter.

Meet at the Visitor Center for the start of the program before going on a ~1 mile long hike along Long Pond Trail (this trail is rated as easy, however it is not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers). Although this course is about foraging for edible food, any items found will NOT be harvested or consumed. Reference materials and microscopes will be provided, but you are encouraged to bring your own field guides as well!

Make sure to wear weather-appropriate clothing and bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated.
