Sedimentary September - As the leaves start to change, many will venture into the oldest mountain range in North America to admire their beauty. But the Appalachian Mountains are not the only place in Virginia with a geological story to tell. Join us in celebrating Collect Rocks Day, where we will cover the rocks of the Piedmont, the history behind them, and the importance of responsible rock hunting practices to preserve geological features for the future.
The cost is $3 per child, with ages 3 and under free of charge; parking fees are waived. Please dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes for hiking. Pack a picnic and enjoy the park afterwards. Programs run from 10:00-11:30 a.m. and 1:00-2:30 p.m.
For more information, please email Rebecca.Whalen@dcr.virginia.gov. Reservations are required for planning purposes and can be made HERE. Only register the participants for the class and please enter their age and total number attending in the comment box.
