When
July 4, 2025. 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Honor Independence Day with a van ride and historical walking tour to learn about the intriguing life of a World War I veteran buried in the park's historic cemetery.
The group will meet at the River Bend Campground's Overflow Parking Lot. From there, you'll take a short ride in the park's 12-passenger van to the entrance of the cemetery. Along the old farm road, you'll ride by the very same sun-soaked farm fields where those who are buried nearby once lived and worked. The park ranger will then lead you on a guided walk through the forested cemetery, which holds the graves of at least 70 people. While most are unmarked, three headstones show the names of loved ones long since passed: Alpheus Hudson, Reverend Samuel Jasper, and Toney Funn. What do we know about those buried at the park today, and what remains to be uncovered?
The van ride is about 3-5 minutes long. The walk is less than 1/4 mile on a flat trail through a forest.
