Did you know people were tie-dyeing clothes over a thousand years before it became a 1960s fashion trend? Traditional fabric dyeing techniques have been used for centuries in places like India, Japan, and Africa. In this fun, hands-on program, you’ll make your own colorful tie-dye shirt to take home while learning about the global history of dyeing fabrics.
We'll also explore how natural materials, such as walnuts, berries, and dandelions, have been used to create vibrant dyes long before synthetic ones existed. Discover what plants produce which colors and how people have used them throughout history.
We’ll be using modern dyes for the activity, but you’ll walk away with a deeper appreciation for the roots of this colorful art form. Space is limited, so be sure to sign up and purchase your ticket in advance at the main office.
