Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

National Kids to Park Day

Kids to Parks Day is a nationally coordinated day designed to connect kids and families with their local, state, and national parks. Join us at Occoneechee State Park for a day full of fun and adventure. Kids are invited to pick and choose the activities that most interest them or spend the day with a ranger participating in all the events.

Museum Scavenger Hunt (9:00-9:45 a.m.) - Meet in the Visitor Center.
Animal Tracks (10:00-11:00 a.m.) - Meet at the Visitor Center.
Campfire Fun (11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m.) - Learn to build a fire and cook hotdogs for lunch. Meet at the Posseclay Interpretive Shelter.
Canoeing (1:30-3:30 p.m.) - This program is limited to 10 participants, please register with the visitor center by calling 434-374-2210, or stopping by the next time you are in the area. Meet at the Posseclay Interpretive Shelter.
