Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

April 2, 2024. 1:00 p.m. - 2:15 p.m.

Vernal pools are hosts to species such as the Marbled and Spotted Salamanders and are key to the their survival. We'll study this natural wonder and try to identify the critters inhabiting this temporary habitat. All ages are welcome; children must be accompanied by an adult. The round trip hike will be about one mile on uneven terrain. Please wear water resistant shoes. Dogs must be leashed and will not be allowed near the water's edge.

This program is conducted in accordance with Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources regulations; park staff possess the proper permits and training to collect and briefly handle wildlife.
