Participants who attend this day-long historic cemetery preservation workshop will learn the proper methods of documenting and conserving a variety of grave monuments. Participants will discover how to identify different stone types, styles, and the characteristics associated with each. A wide array of symbols and meanings found in historic cemeteries will be shared as well. 

In the afternoon proper conservation methods will be taught and demonstrated through practical application at Big Stone Gap’s Glencoe Cemetery. Participants should wear sturdy-toed shoes and dress properly for outdoor activity. Each participant will take home a gravestone cleaning kit.

The event and will be held rain or shine. Registration is required, and deadline to register is Friday, October 20.
