When

May 20, 2024. 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Calling all homeschoolers to join the rangers at Pocahontas State Park for monthly programs on the third Monday of the month. These hands-on programs are designed for the whole family and will introduce everyone to a variety of nature-themed activities.

May is for Monarchs - April showers have brought May flowers, and our pollinators are working hard to make sure everything continues to bloom. There are so many different types of pollinators in Virginia, and we want to get to the bottom of what exactly it is they are doing. It is especially important to discuss on 5/20 because it is World Bee Day! So join a Ranger in learning all about the lives of our bees and butterflies, and how intertwined they are with ours. At the end we will make pollinator hotels, so bring a cleaned out tin can to give some pollinators a resting spot in your very own yard.

Cost is $3/child, with ages 3 and under free of charge. Parking fees are waived. Please dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes for hiking. Pack a picnic and enjoy the park afterwards. Programs run from 10-11:30 a.m. and 1-2:30 p.m.

For more information, please email Rebecca.Whalen@dcr.virginia.gov. Reservations are required for planning purposes and can be made HERE. Only register the participants for the class and please enter their age and total number attending in the comment box.
