Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

National Kids to Park Day - Wetland Wonders!

Embark on an aquatic adventure "going up the food chain" through educational explorations and outdoor games. Let's celebrate the wonders of our wetlands and the joy of the great outdoors!

 

9:00AM – 4:00PM          Self-guided: Scoping Out Belmont Bay @ Visitor Center

Ask the Front Desk for an “I spy” Bingo sheet and a pair of binoculars to see what’s going on over Belmont Bay!

9:30AM - 10:30AM          Bay Exploration @ Turtle Pond by Kayak Launch

Join a ranger to use nets and see what kind of aquatic life hides under the water. Plan to get wet and a little muddy. Closed toed shoes required. Adult supervision necessary for participants under 16.

11:30AM - 12:30PM        Backyard Bass @ Visitor Center Lawn

Learn about local fish and enhance your angling skills through a land-based fishing game!

1:00PM - 2:00PM          Rockin’ Raptors’ Bird Beak Buffet @ Picnic Area

Learn who rules the skies and join a ranger to discover the adaptations of bird beaks and what it means to eat like a bird.

3:00PM - 4:00PM          Migration Mayhem @ Playground Area

Join a ranger in an educational game on migration and habitat balance. Try to navigate the harsh obstacles in the life of a migratory waterfowl!
