Celebrate National Trails Day at Claytor Lake State Park. The park has seven miles of hiking trails and a variety of self-guided activities for you to enjoy. Self-guided activities are posted throughout the park or can be found on our website. Download the Avenza App for a trail map on your mobile device or save the trail map below. If you are interested in volunteering to help with a volunteer trail project please contact us. The day's guided activities include the following:

2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. - Trick Your Stick @ the Interpretive Campfire Circle in Campground D  

Do you need a walking stick to begin your hike? Drop by and create your own hiking stick with help from park staff. Sticks and materials for decorating are provided by the park. Feel free to find a downed stick or bring your own.

4:00 p.m. - Roaming Ranger @ throughout the park 

Watch for a ranger with an interesting mini-program. What will it be this time? Animals? Plants? Something mysterious?

7:00 p.m. - Welcome Campfire @ the Interpretive Campfire Circle in Campground D  

Who knew the best path to navigate the Appalachian Mountains? Buffalo and elk? Indigenous peoples? Daniel Boone? Lewis and Clark? Find out with the assistance of April Martin of the Wilderness Road Regional Museum in Newbern, VA. Did we mention free S'mores?
