Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Have the elegant tundra swans arrived along the shores and marshes of Mason Neck? Discover not only the beauty of these birds, but learn of their strength and stamina in the long journey to and from the tundra they call home.  Meet us at the parking lot at Great Marsh trail in the Elizabeth Hartwell Refuge.  It is past the entry to the park on Gunston Hall Road. The refuge is open to the public, if you would like to take the hike on your own as well. This trail is more accessible than the Woodmarsh trail.  This is NOT in Mason Neck State Park. There are many opportunities to join us if one is full.
