Monarchs & Milkweed

Location of Westmoreland State Park in Virginia

Where

Westmoreland State Park, 145 Cliff Road, Montross, VA 22520.
Discovery Center

When

July 5, 2022. 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

This special program involves decorating or painting a small planting pot, planting milkweed seeds collected through our very own seed collection program, and learning more about Monarch butterflies to include their spectacular transcontinental migration.

Westmoreland State Park rears, tags, and releases Monarch butterflies in a partnership with the Monarch Watch program, in an effort to help support pollinators and to record important data that can help identify changing weather patterns and conditions in relation to climate change and habitat destruction, pathways and migration details, and population stability.  We have multiple Monarch Waystations throughout the park, as well as pollinator fields and gardens with plentiful native plant species.

Help us support our pollinators!

Please pay in advance at the Visitor Center.
