Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Clean the Bay Day

June 4, 2022. 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Park staff and volunteers will cleanup trash and debris along the Adopt-A-Highway portion of the Battlefield where rain runoff and debris deposits into Sailor’s Creek and its tributaries, which affects the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.

Participation in this event is free to the public and is recommended for ages 10 years and older. Volunteers are strongly advised to wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes, bring a water bottle which can be filled at our water bottle filling station, and sunscreen. The park will provide trash bags, blaze orange/yellow traffic safety vests, canvas gloves, trash bags and trash picker hand tools. 

This event is weather dependent. If adverse conditions should arise (rain, thunderstorms, etc.) the event will be cancelled. For questions, please contact the park visitor center at: (804) 561-7510.
