When

Feb. 19, 2022. 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Each February, for four days, the world comes together for the love of birds. Participate in the world's largest biodiversity-related citizen science project to collect data on wild birds. All data will be submitted to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society, and results are available online in near real-time. Different areas of the park will be monitored throughout the weekend as both guided and self-guided opportunities.

Ranger Guided:
Saturday and Sunday, groups will head out at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. accompanied by a ranger. Registration is not required, and the groups will meet outside of the visitor center 10 minutes prior to departure.

Self-Guided:
Throughout the weekend choose your own observation spot, or ask a ranger for a recommendation, and conduct a count of all the birds you can spot. Once you've collected your data, you can submit your count either in person at the visitor center or by email at Widewater@dcr.virginia.gov.
