Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Earth Day: Great Global Clean Up

The Great Global Cleanup is a worldwide campaign to remove billions of pieces of trash from rivers, lakes, parks, and trails. Be a part of this environmental volunteer event by doing helping to clean up our shorelines and trails at Widewater. Close-toed shoes, pants, work gloves, sunscreen, and bug spray are recommended. The park will provide trash bags and nitrile gloves.

Interested participants should meet at the Potomac Picnic Area. After cleaning up the shoreline, meet back up with the rangers to discuss what items were picked up and find the most interesting piece of trash collected!
