The Visitor Center at Sailor's Creek Battlefield Historical State Park offers a museum filled with treasured artifacts discovered over the years where the last major fight of the Civil War in Virginia occurred on April 6, 1865.

Open daily, year round (except for Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day), the museum is a self-guided experience structured as a timeline, and is free to the public.

Through numerous information panels, glass-enclosed exhibits, a short video, rotating display cases, paintings and photographs, visitors will learn about 19th century south side Virginia culture, the start of the Appomattox Campaign, the Battles of Sailor's Creek and current preservation efforts.

Rare artifacts include a variety of weapons, artillery shells, bullets, buttons, personal items, flags and equipment. Detailed maps offer views of the armies as they crisscrossed the countryside trying to outmaneuver one another till they clashed at a small stream called Sailor's Creek.

Park staff and education specialists are always available to answer any questions that arise.
