Recognized as one of Virginia's fast rising new bluegrass bands, Josh Grigsby and County Line was awarded the 2015 Bluegrass Band of Virginia Championship by the Virginia Folk Music Association. The VFMA is the only organization in Virginia sanctioned by the Governor of Virginia to hold Virginia Bluegrass, Gospel and Country Music “Championship Contests” and to induct Virginia Artists into the Virginia Country Music Hall of Fame. In addition to winning the Band Championship, Josh Grigsby was voted first place Male Vocals and Judge Parker was voted third place Male Vocals.

We are excited that photographer Bob Diller will be on hand with some of his astounding photography of Virginia State Parks and area scenery for you to enjoy and he will offer photographs for sale so you can take a memory home with you.

Our special guests this year will be Patty and Joe Elton with their new books to sign for you in person: Civilian Conservation Corps in Virginia by Joe and Patty Elton and Ghostly Tales by P.M. Elton. Joe is a former Virginia State Parks Director.

Patty and Joe Elton

 Authors, Patty and Joe Elton

Patty Elton describes her Ghostly Tales,

“Apparitional land owners rock on their porches, sweet tobacco aroma wafts through the yard, children giggling in hallways, and unexplained footsteps in vacant historic homes are a few tales shared by scores of park staff, volunteers, and visitors. Skeptics may scoff, but those encountering such anomalies at the 13 state parks visited in Ghostly Tales say their lives are changed as result of this arm-tingling phenomena.”

When asked about why he and Patty decided to write a historic piece on the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Joe Elton said,

“The CCC is a piece of history that warrants staying alive for a number of reasons. Several that immediately come to mind include: the men and women whose lives were transformed by a progressive "hands-up" program; the artful impact on our parks and historic sites; and, the fact our government acted as a cooperative and efficient engine that successfully moved our country forward in ways never experienced before or since. And just a note, when a couple works on a book together it requires extra patience and for me a realization that Patty is almost always right."

Well of course Joe, aren't most women?

The concert series is sponsored by the Friends of Westmoreland State Park. Stop by their booth and spin the wheel for some free prizes and enter to win a kayak. Donations to the "Friends" are always welcome to help keep this summer concert series going.
