Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Dear Mom and Dad: I'm Just a Kid
Dear Mom and Dad,
At the lake I will get:
- Water up my nose
- Sand in my shorts
- A fiery sunburn that stings my neck
- Hunger aching my belly
- Mosquito bites on my legs and arms
At the lake I will also get:
- More Vitamin D than a gallon a milk
- Strength in my muscles from swimming and running
- Color and a glow in my cheeks
- Laughter and fresh air making my lungs expand
- Self confidence in my backbone to stand taller
Water, sun and sand are not the enemy
Outside I will get what I need, to be healthy and happy
I'm just a kid
Summer is almost over, let me be just a kid at Virginia State Parks
Signed,
Your kid
