More music series this summer at Virginia State Parks

RICHMOND, Va. - Virginia State Parks will offer a wide variety of music series this summer to include bluegrass, jazz, gospel, country, rock and roll, symphony and contemporary. Park locations host a variety of music throughout the year so there is something that everyone can enjoy.
These events are a great way to get outdoors and relax or dance while enjoying rhythmic music. It is encouraged to bring a blanket or chair and find the perfect spot to experience the melodic sounds from a diverse group of artists.
Consider attending one or more of the following music series available at these six Virginia State Park locations this year:
Smith Mountain Lake will host the annual Judd’s Music in the Park on May 9 from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Beach Pavilion. Entry is only $7 and includes parking and the concert.
Pocahontas Premieres kicks off May 10 and runs through October with a wide variety of artists for everyone to enjoy. Tickets can be purchased in advance and will also be available to purchase at the gate, which opens one hour before each show.
Machicomoco State Park will host Music in the Park on May 31 from 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. featuring the Tidewinders.Local singer/songwriter Ami Baker will be performing the opening act. The second Music in the Park concert will be held on Sept. 13 and will feature The Tom Euler Trio, one of Virginia's leading blues/rock musicians. The opening act is by local musician Hunter Owens.
Another Music in the Park series will take place at Occoneechee State Park beginning on May 24 with an open mic night.
The Southwest Virginia Museum will host the annual Gathering of the Gap on May 24.
Virginia State Parks also offer concerts, festivals and music camps taking place at several locations this year. Music at the parks provide a wonderful atmosphere to connect with friends, family and nature.
Most series run from May until October and begin at 6 p.m. or later. Some concerts are free, and others require a ticket purchase, but parking fees are required at all park locations upon entry. You don’t have to camp to see the concerts, but camping is a great way to enjoy the music at night and explore the park during the day.
