What's new?

  • Resilient Virginia Revolving Loan Fund
    The RVRF is offering up to $10 million in funding to planning district commissions impacted by recent disasters for the resilient rebuilding and repair of access bridges, culverts, retaining walls and other water control structures. Applications accepted beginning Dec. 1, 2025.
  • Community Flood Preparedness Fund
    Grant round 6 is now open. Applications are due Dec. 1, 2025. The fund will provide grants to help reduce the impact of flooding in localities statewide.
  • Low Hazard Dam General Permit Training
    The DCR Dam Safety Division is introducing a revised general permit program. Several training opportunities are available to learn more about the general permit program.
  • Public comments - CFPF Round 6 draft manual
    DCR is accepting public comments for the Round 6 Community Flood Preparedness Fund (CFPF) draft manual. Public comments will be accepted until July 17, 2025 and may be submitted through the Virginia Regulatory Town Hall
  • Proposed RVRF manual
    DCR is accepting public comments on the proposed Resilient Virginia Revolving Fund (RVRF) Manual. Comments will be accepted until July 6 and may be submitted through the Virginia Regulatory Town Hall. 
  • LWCF grant round
    DCR is accepting State and Local Assistance Program applications for parks and outdoor recreation projects for an estimated $7 million in Land and Water Conservation Fund grants. Applications are due by August 28 at 4 p.m.
  • June events at Virginia State Parks
    Happy Great Outdoors Month! June is the perfect time to explore Virginia State Parks. There are so many activities planned for this month. 
  • Get Involved in the VFPMP
    DCR will host a public webinar on April 29, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. to discuss and inform the public on the development of the Virginia Flood Protection Master Plan and to solicit feedback from all residents of the Commonwealth through a public survey.
  • Master Plan Meeting for Shenandoah River SP

  • Recreation Trails Program
    Applications are being accepted for $1.7 million in Recreational Trails Program grants from March 11-May 6. The updated materials are available on the website. An informational webinar was held on March 25.

    Douthat and Fairy Stone State Parks have reopened 29 cabins to the public after completing the first phase of their nearly three-year renovation project.

    Every five years, DCR publishes the state's most comprehensive land conservation, outdoor recreation and open-space planning document. The latest was published in 2024.
  • VLCF projects map
    Since 2000, the Virginia Land Conservation Foundation has funded hundreds of projects to conserve open spaces, park land, historic sites, farmland, natural areas, etc. Use this map to find them.

  • Nonpoint source pollution
    Some pollution comes from many diffuse sources - lawns, farms, city streets, etc. Rainfall flushes it into streams, rivers and even the Chesapeake. Help fight it.

    Show support for - and help support - Virginia's 44 state parks and the great outdoors. Sign up for a the Virginia State Park license plate. It's $25 a year; all revenue goes to conservation in the parks.
