Artisan's Afternoon

Do you want to immerse yourself in Appalachian Mountain culture? Join volunteer John Alexander to learn about the Appalachian artisanal tradition and see how a true artisan works in this cultural demonstration.

Each third Thursday May - October, you'll get to come enjoy the program and learn about local craftsmanship. Topics will vary by program and will rotate through broom making, Appalachian toy making, and poplar bark basket making.

The program will be held at the beach if the weather is clear and in the Discovery Center if it’s rough outside. The program is free, but some of the work may be for sale upon request.
