Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

2024 Solar Eclipse

On April 8, 2024, the shadow of the Moon will sweep across the Earth. This will be the last total solar eclipse seen across most of the United States until August 2044.

Bring the family, ground blanket, and chairs and join the Ranger for some out of this world activities and to create a cool craft to keep. We'll learn how to safely view the eclipse during this astrological experience.

Bring your approved 2024 solar viewing glasses.
The start time for the eclipse will vary by location. For Spotsylvania County, VA it will begin at 2:02 p.m., peak at 3:19 p.m., and, end at 4:31 p.m. All times are EST zone. Our area should experience 86% coverage.

Solar eclipses should not be viewed directly with the human eye. The park may have a few solar viewing glasses for sale at the Park Office (only), please call ahead to check. 540-854-5503
