Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. 2024 Solar Eclipse Viewing

Location of Hungry Mother State Park in Virginia

Where

Hungry Mother State Park, 2854 Park Blvd., Marion, VA 24354.
Beach

When

April 8, 2024. 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Come enjoy a (maybe not so) sunny day on our beach as we celebrate our last chance to see a solar eclipse in the park until 2044. With around 87% coverage at our park, it's a perfect place to enjoy this special phenomenon as the moon blocks out the sun. As the moon's shadow moves across the continental United States, join us for fun information, crafts, and a demonstration of how eclipses work.

See schedule of events below:

2 p.m. - Eclipse Shirt Craft: We'll be creating "eclipse shirts" to commemorate the event with glow in the dark paint on dark shirts. Limited participation is first come, first serve according to available materials.

2:50 p.m. - Eclipse Talk: Learn about the "how" and "why" of solar eclipses in this very brief talk where we dig into the phenomenon with creative visual aids.

3 p.m. - The Solar Eclipse:  Mingle around on the beach as the Eclipse reaches its 3:12 p.m. peak here at the park and create a fun memory to cherish.
