Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Lee's Retreat Through Amelia County - 159th Anniversary Bus Tour

As part of the commemoration of the 159th anniversary of the battles at Sailor's Creek, four ranger-led bus tours covering the route of Confederate General Robert E. Lee's retreat through Ameila County will be offered during the weekend of April 6th and 7th.

Each day, there will be two bus tours beginning at the Visitor's Center at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Stops during each narrated two-hour tour will include the Amelia Court House, Amelia Springs, Deatonville, Holt's Corner, Hillsman House, Lockett House / Double Bridges, and then Harper's Farm before returning to the Visitor Center.

Sailor's Creek Battlefield Historical State Park is located at 6541 Saylers Creek Road in Rice, VA. The Visitor's Center is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily while the park itself closes at dusk. Each tour as well as parking is FREE, but pets are not allowed inside the Overton-Hillsman house. For more information, call (804) 561-7510.
