Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Regardless of the time of year, events at Wilderness Road State Park can transport you to another time, especially around the holidays when the events are more exciting than ever, and when Christmas comes alive at Wilderness Road State Park

In 2015 Saturdays and Sundays beginning on November 28 until December 13, 2015 the park will be offering a magical and entertaining view of our most treasured holiday when they host their first Karlan Country ChristmasFest.

The Karlan Mansion will be decorated with numerous trees, most provided by the local community. Each tree may feature a theme chosen by the decorators, churches, civic organizations even families. While browsing the trees, enjoy refreshments. Entertainment will be provided each Saturday.

The entertainment schedule is:
November 28 – live music from area church choirs, Tickety Tok the Elf and the lighting of the Community Christmas Tree;
December 5 – Santa and Ms. Claus with gifts
December 12 – dinner with the Grinch ($5 advanced tickets required, for ages 10-under).

The event is open to the public with admission is just $1 per person, children ages 10-under is admitted free. The Mansion will be open from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. each Saturday and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

In addition on December 11, 2015 the park will host A Frontier Christmas

This is a festive, yuletide celebration of music and caroling as the Christmas spirit illuminates the Virginia frontier. Enjoy a candlelit tour of Historic Martin's Station, as it comes to life for the Christmas season. Take part in the historic festivities or just sit back and enjoy a warm fire in a settler's cozy cabin
