Waggin' Trails: Dawgs Rule Cats Drool
Mum and Dad like our cat, she is awright, but you have to admit that when it comes to fun at Virginia State Barks we dawgs have it in our back pockets.
Just like Jan with her "Marsha Marsha Marsha!" Mum said she got tired of hearing about Douthat State Bark being the outdoors Disneyland and the best, and so she finally gave in and booked us a cabin for a week this summer. Cabins and dawgs at Virginia State Barks go hand in hand, er in paw, but not so much for a cat.
What I was not expecting to find there however, was a cool dawg like myself, and where we met may surprise you!
Dad and I went for a paddle when I spotted good dawg Bailey with her big sis
Bailey seemed to be having funzy wunzies out on the lake like I wuz
Bailey was actually there with two sis and one bro who was fishing from a kayak
I was impressed with that kid fishing from a kayak like that
Bailey was a lot like me, she liked to drive the vessel
After we left them we went over to check out the dam and spillway and then paddled around the lake looking for wild blueberries. If you want to find them, then listen up dawgs: the best place is on the water's edge just below the CCC built Lakeview Restaurant.
Dad thought they were huckleberries and Mum said they were blueberries. When we got to the WIFI near the Beach Complex we double checked, and we think they were wild blueberries because huckleberries only grow in the western states. Or is that incorrect?
Dawgs you tell me, are these wild blueberries or huckleberries?
Here I am Junie B, eating all the wild blueberries Dad can pick
Douthat State Bark's Lakeview Restaurant
The Lakeview Restaurant has seasonal hours for dining so check before you make the trip out there (540-862-8100), but it was open for Mum and Dad to enjoy sitting outside on the deck overlooking the water at Douthat State Bark. Dawgs are not allowed to sit inside or outside in the dining areas at The Lakeview Restaurant. Down below the restaurant is where we picked (well Dad picked) and I ate the wild blueberries, down there on that bank near the water.
There are also blackberries and some others like wineberries I liked to call "Bear berries" so Dawgs be warned about bears, they live in these Alleghany Highlands too. Be sure to keep your two-leggeds on a leash at all times to keep a careful watch over them. Don't let them run off the trails into the woods on their own.
KEEP YOUR TAILS ON THE TRAILS!
All in all we had a good day out on the water. We saw so many cool dawgs that day, I can't begin to bark enough about them. This Virginia State Bark is a dawg destination.
I made a comment to Mrs Heltman (you know her she is Yoda the dawg's Mum) about adding some tie up spots at the bark where our families like to go (especially those of us two dawg families). It would be nice so we could sit and enjoy the bark while they went into the camp store or launched the boat, or went out on the fishing dock.
Tell the family if they want to learn more about Pets in Virginia State Barks here, or call 800-933-PARK to ask questions about campgrounds or cabins at Douthat State Bark, or make a reservation for one.
Without a doubt, in my opinion this is the doggone friendliest Virginia State Bark of all is Douthat State Bark. So if you wanna have funzy wunzies leave that cat at home!
Calling all cool dawgs
Remember, paws were meant to get muddy!
