Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Great American Campout at a Virginia State Park Near You
Whether you are new to camping or a veteran, June 27, 2015 is a great time to come to a Virginia State Park and celebrate the National Wildlife Federation’s Great American Campout.
All 36 of the Virginia State Parks offer special programming on camping and outdoor recreation. These programs fall into three categories: Parks with special overnight campout events, parks that offer campsites visitors can reserve with related programming on Saturday and Sunday, and a few of our day use parks with programs only. Find the complete list of programs by park here.
Some of the campout activities include meals and some offer equipment on a limited basis. Grayson Highlands, Hungry Mother, James River, and Staunton River Battlefield state parks are all offering free campouts. Space is limited and advance registration is required (see individual listings for details).
Belle Isle, Caledon, False Cape, Holliday Lake, Leesylvania, Natural Tunnel, New River Trail, Powhatan, and Sky Meadows offer family campout opportunities in a group setting with guidance from park staff. Check individual listings for prices and advance registration.
The Great American Campout is fun for folks interested in camping that have
never been or experienced campers
For parks with camping not offering group campouts, call 800-933-7275 to make your campsite reservations and come out and participate in the fun.
Don’t forget about the Get Outdoors! Challenge. Visit 5 different Virginia State Parks between May 16 and June 30 and you can earn an annual Naturally Yours Passport Plus valued at $66.
