Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Egg-stravaganza spring fun for the whole family
Sky Meadows State Park is opening the program season with its annual Egg-stravaganza event on the Saturday of Easter weekend, March 26, 2016.
Egg-stravaganza takes place noon to 4:00 p.m. and will bring an afternoon of fun for the whole family.
Celebrate spring at Sky Meadows State Park with our Egg-stravaganza on March 26
Madeline MacNeil with Park Volunteer George Tiedemann
Some things to look forward to
- Take part in an interactive musical performance by Madeline MacNeil. Madeline sings and plays beautiful folk music on a dulcimer.
- Color boiled eggs using natural dyes from ordinary vegetables such as cabbage, beets, and onion skins.
- Follow Harriet Settle, past resident of historic Mount Bleak House, on a scavenger hunt. Harriet's story will send you all around the historic area collecting treats.
- Visit the Log Cabin to see a hearth cooking demonstration. Taste samples and receive recipes to take home featuring eggs
- Learn all about bluebirds from volunteers who take care of Sky Meadows' bluebird houses. Look inside a bluebird box to see a nest, examine a taxidermed bluebird up close, and see baby bluebird pictures taken at Sky Meadows State Park.
There’s something for everyone to explore and do during this egg-cellent event

Bring the whole family and enjoy a picnic at Sky Meadows State Park
Make a day of it
Start the day with a hike on our trails in search for signs of spring. How many different signs of spring will your family find: fern fronds, buds swelling, the first delicate wildflowers, frogs croaking, birds singing…?
Once you’ve worked up an appetite, enjoy a picnic together.
And finally, join in the Egg-stravaganza activities in the historic area in the afternoon. Make it a whole day of fun outside at the park with loved ones and create memories that last a life time on March 26 at Sky Meadows State Park.
