Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

The holidays are a special time of year for so many, and we have one more thing that you will want to include on your list of things to enjoy this season, it's the Christmas at Claytor event.
CELEBRATE THE HOLIDAYS
Celebrate the festive season at Claytor Lake. Make winter crafts, enjoy refreshments, play a few holiday games, or participate in our Gingerbread House Competition. Even Santa will be visiting Claytor Lake State Park and so can you.

A PHOTO WITH SANTA
While visiting with Santa make sure the moment is captured with a photo. A photo with Santa only costs $5. You and the family can also write Santa a letter that will be personally delivered to him. You can enjoy a story read by Santa too at 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m., and 4:30 p.m.
POLAR EXPRESS HAYRIDE
You and your family and friends can also enjoy the unique experience of the Polar Express Hayride. The hayride is free to all and will pick up visitors at the Water's Edge Meeting Facility. The ride will run as long as weather permits.

GINGERBREAD HOUSE COMPETITION
Have you ever been a part of a Gingerbread House Competition? Well, here's your chance. The Gingerbread House Competition goes on throughout the day on December 9, 2017, but judging takes place at 5 p.m. The park will have some supplies, but you're encouraged to build your master piece at home and bring it to the park to get judged. For more information about this competition, the prizes and the rules click here.
