The Saint of the Season

Saint Nicholas is honored by many Catholic and Orthodox Christians in on December 6. Almost everyone looks forward to a visit from Santa Claus on Christmas Day. Along the banks of the York River, St. Nick abandons his reindeer for a “doggone” great adventure the very next week.

Tradition for Dogs & Owners

Jingle Bark in the Park is the annual Christmas celebration of the Friends of York River State Park for dogs and their owners.  It is held on the second Sunday on December 13, 2015 from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m.

The day begins with doggie photos with Santa.  Make sure “Fido” (if he is Cajun, “Phydeaux”) is dressed for the occasion as there will be a Christmas costume contest at 1:00 pm. A half hour afterwards, St. Nicholas will lead us for a hike along Beaver and Woodstock Pond Trails. There will be plenty of jingle bells & treats for both four and two legged hikers.

Helping Less Fortunate Pets

To spread the cheer of the season, please bring a gift for a less fortunate animal. We accept donations for all types of pets. The donations will be taken to a local shelter. All creatures should have something in their stockings for the holidays. Join the Friends of YR and St. Nicholas for a barking Yuletide tradition at our tidal park.

Virginia State Parks (December 15, 2015 03:08:57 PM): Did someone promise they would post them? We normally just keep these in a non-public Flickr set and we don't upload all of the pictures.

Stephanie (December 15, 2015 02:19:24 PM): When will the pictures from 2015 jingle bark in the park be posted?
