Golf Course Nutrient Management Plan Grants Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a cost-share program? Currently there is no cost-share program, but grant funds are available for the writing of nutrient management plans for golf courses in Virginia.

Is my course eligible for grant money? All golf courses in Virginia are eligible to participate in this grant. This grant is a mix of state and federal funding, unlike the previous grant that was only federally funded and could only be used for courses in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. If you have any questions about eligibility, contact DCR Urban Nutrient Management Specialist Derik Cataldi at derik.cataldi@dcr.virginia.gov or 804-371-7489.

How do I receive grant funds? Contact one of the grant contractors. The contractors are paid $10 per acre to write nutrient management plans for land maintained by the golf course. Only land that will receive nutrients within the five-year period of the plan can be included. This $10 per acre grant may not cover the entire cost to write the plan.

How can I be sure I am getting the $10 per acre from the contractor? Ask your grant contract planner. They should be able to break down the costs of the plan for you.

How long will this grant program last? There is just over $148,000 in the grant program. The grant funds are administered on a first-come, first-served basis. Funds for this grant will be available until only Dec. 31, 2016, but the funds will most likely be used before then, so act soon. DCR is pursuing additional funding to continue through July 1, 2017, grants for golf courses.
