Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.
New Year's Night Hike

Forgo the fireworks and crowded festivities and accompany a ranger on this guided hike through the quiet woods with the moon and stars lighting the way. Be the last one hiking in the old year and the first one hiking in the new. Take a rest around a warm fire to celebrate the arrival of 2020.This moderate to advanced 2.3-mile hike traverses a portion of Lakeview bike trail, not commonly open to hikers. The trail will be modestly lit by the moon.This event will run from 11 p.m. New Year's Eve until 1 a.m. on New Year's Day.Please register by calling 804-796-4255.
