Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

RVA Basics, designed to give every child an equal start in life, is partnering with Pocahontas State Park to offer weekly activities that incorporate the 5 Basics principles and environmental education for parents/caregivers and children 0-3 years old.

June 24-Talk, Sing and Point
July 1- Count, Group and Compare
July 8- Explore through Movement and Play
July 15- Read and Discuss Stories
Pack a picnic, as after the lesson, you'll have time to eat lunch and explore the park and the playground at your own pace. Parking fees are waived for those enrolled in the Basics class.
