Prowl the Powell Nature Series

Participants who are interested in the Prowl the Powell nature series should meet volunteers and park staff at the front gate of the museum. Dates will stay the same, but times are subject to change. The May Prowl the Powell nature series will be herpetology. Participants will join park rangers and master naturalists on a walk along the Powell River in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, and will learn about the different types of amphibians, reptiles and other water-creatures that call this region home. Staff and volunteers will also demonstrate how to move rocks, logs, etc. safely, without causing damage to the wildlife or their habitats. Participants should expect to leave this Prowl the Powell program with a much greater understanding of the natural world of the Powell River Valley and Southwest Virginia.  

The Prowl the Powell monthly nature series will be held rain or shine. Participants are asked to wear appropriate clothing for the weather and comfortable walking shoes. Binoculars are encouraged but not required. Registration is not required for this program.
