Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Just as caterpillars grow and change, our Caterpillar Club programs are designed to help your little one grow and change. Each week, we will have you and your child(ren) exploring our natural world through a variety of seasonally appropriate, hands-on activities that will foster children's inborn sense of wonder and curiosity. These experiences are gauged towards early childhood (3-5 years old), but of course, all family members are welcome and encouraged to participate. Every program supports Virginia's Blocks for Early Learning.

Please dress for the weather. We are meeting at Shelter 1. It is the shelter next to the playground by the Aquatics Complex.

May 2nd - Bring May Flowers: Have April showers brought May flowers? Find out on a hike with our rangers.
May 9th - Mothers on the Loose: Enjoy a scavenger hunt to see all the animals taking care of their young in time for Mothers Day.
May 16th - Pollinator Party: Prepare for World Bee Day on 5/20 by learning all about our different pollinators in the park.
May 23rd - Turtle Shellebration: It’s World Turtle Day! Come learn about the turtles of Virginia and maybe have a “shellebirty” sighting.
May 30th - Caterpillar Club Rocks!: We are combining our two favorite things: hanging out with caterpillar club and looking for cool rocks. Let’s search for the most rockin’ rock on Powhatan Trail.
