All Day - Follow our blazes through any of our six trails or blaze your own trail on many of our lakeside scenic open areas this Girl Scouts Day in Claytor Lake State Park. Several self-guided opportunities are available focusing on history, plant and tree identification, and more. Please see our self-guided activity fliers posted on kiosks throughout the park. In recent years, our trails have seen a lot of use. If you are interested in helping to maintain or improve any of our trails, you may want to sign up for our Adopt-a-Trail program.

10:00 a.m. - Hooked on Fishing @ the Water's Edge Meeting Facility - Where's the best place to fish? Join the rangers for a short discussion of fishing techniques and of the fish commonly found in our lake. This event is for beginners as well as accomplished fisherman. A practice casting area is provided as well as equipment and bait. Feel free to bring your own equipment if you wish. Let's plan on a great day in the park. A valid Virginia fishing license is required for those 16 years old or older and may be purchased in the Park Office, Gift Shop, or online.

1:00 pm - Outdoor Survival Skills @ the Interpretive Campfire Circle in Campground D - Try your hand at knot tying, fence building, flint and steel fire-starting, foraging for food, and more. Rangers will be on hand to assist.

8:00 p.m. - Light up the Lake @ the Water's Edge Meeting Facility - Take a stroll along our lake shore as you visit several mesmerizing lights that have been placed in or along the lake. Animals of all sizes and varieties may be drawn to the lights. Identification brochures may be picked up at the beginning of the program and a ranger will be on duty to assist with identifying anything seen. Bring a strong flashlight if you want to search the waters between the lights and be sure to visit the Gas Dock where our underwater camera will be in use.
