Join our friends from the National Park Service to explore Indigenous and colonial ways of navigating and mapping these waters. Indigenous peoples first came to the Chesapeake region before the Bay had even formed. As glaciers melted, and the Bay formed, Native societies learned to thrive in a watery world. When colonists arrived in 1607, they set about mapping the Chesapeake Bay's waters. Discover how Native people made use of the Chesapeake's abundant natural resources, and how these resources are still important today. Stop by to chat with a National Park Service ranger about this and other topics, take home a trail map, participate in the Junior Ranger program, or even learn if you qualify for a free National Park pass!
