Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Mayo River Trails

Join us every second Saturday at the Mayo River Trails to explore the future Mayo River State Park. You will also discover some interesting facts about local wildlife, the history of the Native Americans who inhabited the area, and about the exploration of the area by William Byrd.

We will alternate monthly between the Redbud Trail and the Mayo River Trail, so hiking times will vary. The Redbud Trail is approximately two miles long. The Mayo River Trail, plus Byrd's Loop, is approximately four miles long. 

March/May/July/September/November - Mayo River Trail
April/June/August/October - Redbud Trail

To reach the parking lot from Route 58, turn onto the Horsepasture-Price Road at The Old Country Store and travel 3.6 miles to Moore's Mill Road. Turn right on Moore's Mill and travel 4.4 miles to Pratt Road. Turn left on Pratt Road and travel 0.5 miles to the trailhead parking lot. The address is 500 Pratt Road, Spencer, VA 24165. The parking lot is located at the end of a cul-de-sac on your right.
