Enjoy the free parking that comes with Public Lands Day by exploring various natural elements of the Appalachian Mountains. Come down to the spillway parking lot below the dam and meet up with both park staff and local volunteers who will teach you about various topics pertaining to flora, fauna, and the landscape itself. Each vehicle will have a tailgate packed with various resources and visual aids that you can explore at your leisure. The "Trailgate" location will also serve as the starting point for various small hikes and walks that will cover natural science topics throughout the day.
Throughout the day, we'll also be offering various hikes to compliment your learning experience:
10 a.m. Lake Loop Habitat Hike with our Interpreters
11 a.m. Edible and Medicinal Plant Hike with Carrie Sparks
12 p.m. Lunch Break
1 p.m. Tree Hike with Mark Archibald
2 p.m. History and Heritage Hike with our Interpreter
