Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Want to sketch something spectacular like the stone knife used to skin a 400 pound bear or the brilliant red cardinal flower used for medicinal purposes by the historic Powhatans? Join us for this step by step drawing program which is open to artists of all levels and requires pre-registration with the front office to include a $10 charge per participant to cover supplies. All material will be provided by the park and guests will get to take home their final piece. This program will take place in the outdoor classroom. Please call the park office at (804) 642-2419 to reserve your spot or for any inquiries about this week’s project.
